Ink Grade Estate was established in 2019 at a major inflection point for a global wine group, Demeine Estates. My work on this project covered the first two vintages. I was fortunate enough to work with Brittany Sherwood, Director of Winemaking, to begin sculpting the wine style and identity for the brand. With this project, I managed the production team to blend and bottle several wines, also contributing to branding, artwork, and packaging development. The first vintage was released in 2021.

Utilizing 200 acres of biodynamically farmed vineyards on Napa Valley's Howell Mountain, Ink Grade was born from a desire to showcase a style of wine long lost to globalized wine trends and the rise of an international wine style. Upon arriving at the vineyard, you are gripped immediately by its unparalleled beauty. Our goal was to create wines and a brand identity that reflected the stunning natural presence of the site. There is an undeniable, wild power to the site.

The creative process for this brand was backed by a desire to respect the biodiversity of the vineyard. This is reflected not just in the style of wines, but also in the label and packaging design. We opted for an atypical Bordeaux bottle for the wines and incorporated imagery that is actual found when exploring the estate on foot. Still and video imagery was produced to illustrate the vast expanse and topographic features of the vineyard.
